War of Thoughts at Bhavan, Pkl
Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula is hosting yet another Mega Event – The Parliamentary Debate Championship 2016 from the 26th of May to 28th May (War of Thoughts 3.0). The 3-day grand event is being organised in association with SAASC i.e. Speaker’s Association and Study Circle with an objective of providing the student community an opportunity to unleash their potential towards honing their speaking skills and enhancing the cognitives. PDC is a Model of Parliamentary session. It is an off topic, extemporaneous form of competitive debate which stresses rigorous argumentation, logical analysis and rhetorical ability. The format pits two teams against each other which stimulates the debates held in a house of Parliament. Topics include themes like politics, sports, technology, history etc.
More than 350 debaters (of age group 14-18) from all over the tricity are going to be a part of this prestigious event. The winning team will get a chance to represent themselves at ‘Trivium’ – the largest debating competition in Asia. The competition commenced with a ceremonial opening by the Chief Guest for the occasion Prof. Dr. Surender Shukla, Department Political Science at Punjab University with the auspicious lighting of the Lamp. A video Titled ‘War of Thoughts’ highlighted the immense power possessed by our words and the impact it has had over the masses since times immemorial. It gave the right impetus to the three day debating tournament.
A special thought provoking performance by the students of classes 10th and 11th on the theme of ‘Crimes against women’ gave a good start to the magnificent event.
The Sr. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Shashi Banerjee welcomed all the participants and wished them hot and constructive debating sessions. Thereafter the teams moved to the respective venues allotted to them for the debating rounds.
