REITERATES PUNJAB DOESN’T HAVE ANY A SINGLE DROP OF WATER TO SPARE
CALLS AN EMERGENCY SESSION OF THE PUNJAB VIDHAN SABHA ON NOVEMBER 16
SAD TO LAUNCH “PANI BACHAO, PUNJAB BACHAO” CAMPAIGN FROM DECEMBER 8
Chandigarh : The Punjab Council of Ministers today declared that not a single drop of water from Punjab Rivers would be allowed to go out of the state.
This decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the Punjab Cabinet held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal here at his office, this evening.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that the Cabinet reiterated that Punjab government would not allow the SYL to be built at any cost nor a single brick would be allowed to be laid for its construction by any agency.
Holding Mrs Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, squarely responsible for Punjab’s crisis as she forced the then Congress Chief Minister of Punjab, Darbara Singh into signing an agreement to give away Punjab’s waters to Haryana forcing him to withdraw the Supreme Court Case filed by the previous Chief Minister Sardar Parkash Singh Badal to protect Punjab river water interests. Mrs Gandhi had enacted this drama as there were elections to follow in Haryana that year.
The Cabinet also held the present PPCC Chief Amarinder Singh responsible for inviting Mrs Indira Gandhi to start the digging of the canal at Kapuri in his own constituency Patiala. It was he who offered her a silver spade to start the digging. It was against this digging that the SAD had launched a long peaceful democratic morcha for Punjab’s interests. It is as a result of that Morcha that no river waters went out of Punjab after that.
The Cabinet decision said that Punjab does not have a single drop of water to spare.” Water is the life line of every citizen of Punjab, especially farmers industry and trade. And nobody can take away our citizens’ life line.
The Cabinet also decided to call an emergency session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on 16th of November to discuss the emergent issue.
The Cabinet would also call on the President of India requesting him not to accept the advice of the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, it was also decided that the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) would hold a Huge Gathering of Punjabis at Moga on December 8 and start a campaign for “Pani Bachao, Punjab Bachao.”
